Our History

In the early seventies, while working as an executive manager at Merrill Lynch, Harbor Advisory's founder Robert G. Butler identified a service niche in the financial marketplace. At the time, high net worth families’ investment and financial management needs were not being met by large financial institutions or by small banks or brokers. Bob wanted to provide investment services and counsel based solely on the client's need to meet their personal and financial objectives. The new firm would have an investment committee composed of experienced investment advisors and leading industry specialists to provide a global economic perspective and guidance on investment and equity strategies.

In 1972 Harbor Advisory Corporation, an independent investment firm offering tailored wealth management services to high net worth families, opened its doors. Five decades later, Harbor Advisory is headquartered in Portsmouth, NH, and has Bob’s son, Weld, at the helm. Today, Harbor Advisory has a reputation for delivering sustained investment success, sound wealth-related counsel, and superior client service.
